Exclamation Street Rodder RIP?

Yesterday I got a letter from Ten Publishing. It said Street Rodder is no more and offered the option of getting Motor Trend, Hot Rod, or 4 Wheeler instead. None of those are even close to Street Rodder. How can a magazine with the volume of advertising Street Rodder had go under?

If you search around, you'll find that TEN dumped more than a dozen magazines all on the same day...if fact, I think it was 19 titles got axed.

The day of paper magazines is facing its sunset, like it or not. They are all going digital if they survive at all.

This didn't have a lot to do with not being able to sell magazines although they certainly have not had the numbers they did in the past. Street Rodder was one of those publications that was definitely solid financially but the powers that be wanted to cut cost and that always means one thing - bodies.

I'll miss a lot of those titles and the funny thing that I have already noticed is that I used to check out the magazine rack at the grocery store, even looking and purchasing a book sometimes that I wasn't a regular reader of - since the titles were cut back in December, I haven't looked at anything else since then. Now I admit that buying a copy of a book here and there isn't a big deal but how many other people aren't checking out the magazine rack anymore?

I, personally, will miss CarCraft - another one to bite the dust. It was aimed at the DIY/shade-tree guy, and that's me. Looks like most of the periodical mags are going away, but I believe there will still be 'special' editions with lots of pictures at the news stand. Hard to beat ink on paper for photos that you can stare at and go back to over and over.
