Stripping Paint ....
Is tedious and time consuming. It sucks.
Stripped the tail panel and all the attaching parts, got it epoxied and in primer. Next will be the quarter extensions , gas door and the vented looking thing in front of the windshield. Cowl vent? It is a pain to strip. Been sanding it, scraping with a razor etc . Got it close to bare metal all over , spent several hours on that alone. Don't want no chemicals for stripping though. I could not stand to do this crap for a living, unless I could get someone else to do the sanding LOL I will try to get a few pics posted in the next day or so. I am getting the hang of using a spray gun, which is good, because my first few attempts were pretty drippy ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Got it pretty well dialed in now, and have the mechanics of sweep and trigger control figured out. I bought the Devillbiss starting line series primer and topcoat guns. They seem to do a good job. After all, If I can paint and it looks good the gun cant be all bad. ![]()

I'm with you on chemicals for stripping, I used them once or twice and felt like they were more of a mess than they were worth.
I did collision and restoration as my livelihood for many years and really enjoyed the prep part of the process, it really is the key to a successful job. Glad to hear you are mastering the devilbiss, there's only one way to learn and that's trial and error - so kudos to you and good look on your project. |

Thank you Cragar.
I am hoping to get all the edge work done before too much longer as I have no garage. Working in the fresh of outdoors can be time consuming and makes it hard to get a good window to spray. Too wet, or too cold etc. all slow things down. ![]() I am gonna keep after it though.I am also going to try and get some pics up later , maybe tonight or tomorrow.Just for fun. L

Swinging a gun does take practice. Accidentally bumping the fan control knob is how I've done my best drips but overlap is next in line. Last GTO through the shop got the cowl shaved. Not much reason to keep the slots unless using factory air. By the way that for a living thing arrangement does exist! Lay some pics on us when ya can.
