What it is is an old air compressor tank. Where one of the legs is welded on the bottom it has developed a small crack. Just curious if it would be safe to mig weld this crack? Would it be better to have the tank vented or not?

If your really good with a welder I don't see a problem. Some one or something welded it together to start with. The thing I would be concerned with is rust and scale on the inside making the walls thinner and/or weaker. The tank needs to be clean, dry and open to air.
