welding sheetmetal

Well I'm taking a short break from trying to weld a small brace plate in one of the corners of my trunk floor. I practiced on three pieces of scrap before I attempted the fix and my welds looked really good on my practice pieces. I spent an hour cleaning and fitting this small piece for the brace and cleaning the area of the floor where it went in, a masterful fit if I don't say so my self. You guy's know where I'm going with this. I got carried away with my masterful self and attempted a bead instead of spotting it in and now it looks like Do-Do. Good thing I can put a rug over it. Thanks for listening. I think I'll have another beer before I go back out and try and fix this. Pops

I feel your pain as well, My best welds are where you will never see them and the worst are right in sight. I tried to teach my father in law to weld and he was doing good i needed to patch a spot around the rear glass, well he tried it and know it looks like swiss cheese.. Headace.

I know that very few of us have acess to a tig welder but they are a god send to weld thin sheet. And if you are using a mig dont try to run a bead just quick quick tacks and move to the other side after every tack so the metal has time to cool. Brazing is a good option too .And as for bondo its okay and I am using it for now but I would like to learn how to lead it in.
