So, since I'm lazy and I know when I get chips I won't want to fix them right away or probably never, can primer be tinted different colors like green for instance? It would be nice to have a pretty close match under there.

If memory serves me correctly you were using SPI right? I would like to think you could start with a white primer and maybe use base coat tint and toner, but I would recommend calling Barry to make sure of the correct process before trying it, I don't want to be giving incorrect information. I know R-M diamont used to offer primer/sealer tinted to almost an exact match to the base coat. I am sure it is possible, but if you seal with epoxy prior to paint, you'll be amazed at how much that alone reduces the occurance of rock chips.

Hopefully he's not getting too many rock chips on the interior of his car

Yes but you need to use the white and tint it with a high strength toner which you can get at any body shop supply store you only need a few drops...but just because that's what I do don't make it right, you better give Barry a call just to be sure ...

Thanks everyone.

Nowhere close to priming my final primer coat. Just getting the body stripped, actually just shipped it off a few hours ago.
Just need to hit the bare metal in epoxy while it sits around for awhile.

I asked about color of primer to see who uses what. Looks like everyone has a preference. I like the idea of seeing the different colors when blocking and will keep this in mind.

For the initial coat of primer on the bare shell, I'm using grey, only because I don't want the interior to be so dark that it's hard see inside there.

Your sending it out to be stripped????You'll be on pins and needles until it gets back....Having someone else touch your baby will be the most unenjoyable part of the whole build ...I'd rather send my wife out of town to a male stripper convention.

I know what you mean. They tell me it will be in and out and before I know it.

Personally I would not care if my car went to male or female stripper convention as long as some one besides me got to strip it. Of course the wife is another story.........
