That's pretty cool! Reminded me of a time I was recovering an antique pool table and taking it apart (using screwdrivers (flat)) ran into 1 or 2 bent wood screws that were a pain to get out. The new owner of the table saw it and said we better be careful when we put it back together because obviously the last person put then in too fast and they got hot and warped.

In Australia and New Zealand (and probably in Britain too, as well as all other Right-Hand drive countries) the '56 Dash was used in 57 Chevs as the '56 was symmetrical so was easy to swap side -to-side.

So - to answer - it's in a '57!

Correct!
Took that pic in NZ in Ď91.
As for symmetrical. Maybe. Convenient for sure. According to the locals it was used in 57 because gm knew of the change coming in 58 and hadnít tooled up for 57 production.
58 had a reversed dash same style as American dash.
Interesting way to flip the 3ott though. Keep it on the roomier left side by rotating the column 180 degrees. Same trans used with shift forks on left side. Five bellcranks and 8 shift rods with a cross shaft at the rear of the trans to make it work. My buddy gave me a tour of that on the underside of his rhd 56 poncho. Also a tour under his dadís 64 Rambler. The shifter was on the right of the column but was quite short. Same linkages.
No speed shifting those cars.
Pic of the 57 bel air moredoor.

You would have had me on that one, although on the tri five group there are quite a few Aussies and one of them would have guessed. There is a U.S. member on that group that removed the dash from his 57 and installed a 55 dash. I wonder if the Aussie cars gave him the idea?

He wouldn’t be the only one Tony.
There was a 57 two door I looked at in Auckland that had been converted to the 56 dash.
The telltale was easy to identify. No two doors were originally imported down under. Just four doors. Family oriented type cars.

Not that it matters but a 55 has bowties on the trim panel a 56 has bars like the grill,,the door panels and sterring wheel are also 56,,,well 55 and 56 wheel I think are the same,i think.56 just a little flatter.
