Would you believe it was offered on American Automobiles? I've personally driven a number of them. Pretty rare though! In the 60's yet!

Would you believe Ford and Chevy? When I started working for Ford back in 65 we would occasionally get a Econoline with a factory four speed 6 cyl. van in. True 4 speed not 3 and over drive. It was also available in Falcons and Fairlanes. Mostly I'd see then in vans though. In searching for a picture I also discovered that Chevy offered a four speed column shift van also. 67-70. Here's a pic!

I had an eye doctor back when I was about 18 who had a Mercedes with a 4 on the tree. I took it home, prepped it and a guy in the neighborhood it in his garage. I got a pair of eye glasses out of the deal.

Uh-oh... an unfavorable chain of events unraveled this afternoon that whew boy...

Figured I ought to raise the grouch alert flag before it sinks in. Main thing, on the way home- A/C compressor on the GTP went up in smoke. Where it was shady, while I had music on which is rare, so I ate a good bit of the smoke. Shut off A/C, it was loading the interior with smoke out the vents. Windows down, radio off. Finally a place to pull over and sunshine and oh crap is it on fire? Red light, work with me here. Raised hood, first thing I see is drip from radiator cap. Temp was fine BTW. Second thing I see, one fan not turning. Great, finally found my mysterious cooling problems now wheres the smoke from? And the new noise?

Closed hood, drove home. Airing out in garage. Text from friend I was going to visit. Text from Mom about dying sister. Can I go, can I feed the cat? Letter from county assessor stating my cars have been re-valued at 150% of what they were. And there was a dog barking when I woke up today. At the start of the day I thought the holiday was another week off. I smell like burnt compressor and so does the house now. At four today, Footloose comes up to ask me to help bond a roof skin on a Bronco topper. Because he can't smooth a bead of adhesive into a layer "like I can". Oh brother. I had cleaned up my stall, shat a sticky wicket project, and felt good. Was saving a fun project for the last hour but did not get to touch it.

I got some good normal stuff for my thread, to post. But I feel a little queasy. Better go gas up the big Pontiac. Man my long awaited weekend just went to hell on a bobsled. Have not been driving the 69 much since it is so run down under the hood. Dammit. Think kind thoughts of Grape, I can't just put a shorter belt on the GTP.

Thanks for reading. I will try to quietly behave but you guys know me. I do also have the GT. Also no A/C but ready and willing for local duties as of a month or so ago. So

Sounds like the "Pugsy Triangle" has blown south.....

I just have to ask about assessing your cars value?
Say what?

Yeah, is that a way to raise the license renewal cost ? Never heard of that, other than initial purchase and title/license transfer.

Read it wrong. More like low teens percent. Camel's back intact but possibly wobbling.

Went for gas, was crowded by car comment guy at counter. Man walks up on my blind side while I get gas, says something. I reply. He stands directly over my VIN number and stares at that area until I finish, then when the mirror about bumps him from me opening the door because thats how close and concentrating he is... he steps back and now is sizing me up, starts some car story. Uh, bye. That guy may very well be a thief. As I turned back into the neighborhood, someone in the next neighborhood is screaming about the car. When I shut er down I sat there and thought for a minute. I'm out of junk! Paranoid delusuions, intrusive thoughts, blah blah etc etc and "I have to do something different." was the trance breaking thought. She just about sounds like she is down a hole now. Steady, IDJ. I call days like this anti-Matt-ers. Might be a 3 western night.

For personal property "tax value" which is some kind of points system I guess. Its the same as when the county says your house is worth this now, pay us this. Trailers, ATVs, parts cars, hell maybe riding lawn mowers. Sales tax is 10% up by work. The mailed paper is my notice that I have ten days from when they printed it to "appeal".

Man, just... well crap. I gotta quit communicating for today so I can dismiss things and get sleep. Only thing I know is I must see if the compressor is on the spare L67 at lunch. But I am thinking probably every component of the A/C system is trashed and that makes it a total but I can just go back to no car A/C. Dorman makes a dummy pulley. The last decade has been overly luxurious in that department and its almost winter anyhow.

I WAS going to say, I am glad we don't have that here, except we do... at tab renewal time. New cars can run $600 and more a year and it's based on "value". All my stuff is old enough to be close to the bottom tier, but with all the add-ons, they still run $52. All my classics are registered in the "collector" program, so I don't pay renewal fees every year. My travel trailer tab has to be renewed every year at about $35, so yeah, we have a "value" tax here too, they just disguise it as license tabs...
