1930U Chassis Work
I finally got started on the frame. It’s nice to be doing something besides body work. I plan to finish the body on the dolly over the winter.
This is an original 1930U, 1931-32 PA chassis. It was modified in the late 60’s early 70’s for street and strip. I was expecting the worst when I started taking it apart but much to my surprise it came apart with no problem. I was able to knock the king pins up and out with only a 12oz hammer and brass drift. It’s primitive but I am trying to save all the old school parts and will reuse everything I can.
The Olds/Pontiac rear end has to weigh at least 200lbs. The guy that built this thing used ½†plate steel to fab up all the mounting tabs for the rear suspension and rear end housing. It’s super strong but I can see some battle scars here and there.
Here’s a few shots.
