Bought this Austin A8 back in late June 2010 with plans to build a gasser clone. Been putting a lot of long hours after work and weekends since then, and it's still not done, but getting closer!
It was all original when I bought it, with the old flathead 4 cyl. 23 hp engine, and 4 spd. tranny. Tore it all out and saved just the body and frame.
The new powerplant is a 1967 large journal 4 bolt main 327, bored .040", balanced, blueprinted, 1.94 fueler heads, Patriot fenderwell headers, dual Holley 450's on a Holley Pro Dominator tunnel ram.
Tranny is a TH350, with B&M shift kit, and 2000 stall converter. Rearend is a 8.5" GM 10 bolt that's been narrowed 18" to 36" width. Haven't put in gears or posi yet, so it's still stock 2.73 geared open rear, but plans are for a 3.73 posi soon.
Front suspension is a Speedway gasser straight axle, with GM metric disc brakes. Steering is a Corvair van box, tied to what's left of the original Austin column. Braking is a Subaru Legacy master/booster and pedal assembly.
Seating is minimal, with two old Harwood high back racing buckets. Interior is uncomplete yet, but it will get carpetting, and basic fairly plain black naugahyde door panels.
