1988 Suburban, the next step??? - Nov 24, 2009

I need to do a bit of scrounging for all the parts of my tilt front clip to come together, it's scattered all over the basement with a dozen other projects and hotrod parts and stuff just sitting around. I have also gotten a new idea in my head about the Suburban for a project course, and my new direction is to leave it 2 wheel drive, change the rear gears for a set of 2.73's so I can essentially have my overdrive gearing back with the SM-465 transmission.

A theme I seem to like is starting off the skulls on the new rearview mirror Troy bought for his dear old dad, and seemed to like the aftermarket following the skull theme from license plates to hood ornaments, shifter handles, valve caps, door locks, and even exhaust tips and axle gear covers.

Why not hotrod this thing a little more and make it even more unique, I'm already off the beaten path with the "old school" 465 tranny, and with a center console and bucket front seats and adding window tint to all the windows past the front doors, it should look a little better, maybe lower the front a bit, swap out wheels for 20's or something, maybe even adding the adapters for the lowpro 22.5 semi wheels and going with a wide rear tire.

Anyway, the possibilities are nearly endless. here's a few photo's of the fenders for the tilt front clip. I still have a new in the box hood I bought for it way back when, and just found the hinged radiator support body mounts for it while looking for something else the other day.

Photo 1 shows a whole bunch of stuff just laying around in storage, but you can plainly see both front halves of the split front fenders of the tilt front clip I have. All the parts have been ordered as the clip being a 1986, but it could be anything from 1982 to 1988 with the quad stacked headlights just like I already have on the 1988 Suburban.

Photo 2 shows the passenger side rear and driver side front split front fenders, the only thing I would like to do is remove the wide fender flares, this clip was removed from a friends' project as he never got the entire clip mounted on his truck, and had bought it off a custom truck built by one of his friends in Warren, PA.

Photo 3 shows a few of the inner fender halves just laying around collecting dust with a bunch of cab repair parts I bought way back when I had money to do this stuff with.
