Photo 1 shows a parts cab from a 1978 Chevy pickup I happen to have handy, let's use the windshield out of THAT truck DAD, the kids asked me when I said I needed to change the windshield. I hadn't really even went out back to look at this thing for parts in years now.
Photo 2 shows the parts cab windshield up close, yup- it's dirty, yup- it's scratched from a bad driver side wiper (hey- glass polish DOES work let's use this glass and try that later on), Yup it's NOT BROKEN- let's use it.
That is. . . if I don't crack the glass upon removal from this cab out here in the parts yard.
Photo 3 shows MY scruffy mug and me after successful removal of the donor windshield on my way back up to the shop to clean the gasket sealer, dirt, grime, and for some crazy reason- grinder slag melted into the passenger side inside of this glass and get it ready for installation in the Suburban. I can live with all that stuff, because HEY- IT'S FREE!
