Picture 1: we wanted to make sure we knew where the distributor was pointing so we could put it back in with the same orientation.
Picture 2: The distributor and intake manifold are removed now, and you can clearly see the balance shaft, and the lifter guides. These are roller lifters, so the have to have the guides to keep them facing the correct direction with respect to the cam lobes.
Picture 3: Here you can see just how poorly factory ports line up with the gaskets, and why this engine, and all factory engines, desperately need to be ported and polished. More to come on that...
