Then I had to cut out the dash, I hinged the remaining bits I am keeping and cut away the rest. The cowl vent was rusty so that got drilled out and repaired in the process. Then I found a motor that operated the headlight doors on a Toyota Celica and fitted that to open and close the vent. Wiring this is tricky, they short out the motor to make it stop suddenly, otherwise is just keeps opening and closing all day. I then cut up a Jap heater demister unit and mounted it where I wanted it, modified the pipes so they came out neat on the other side. I refitted the cowl as a trial to make sure it all cleared the steering and brakes etc
