For the first time in months, I went out to the shop to visit the Hot Rod this weekend. Unexpected home repairs in the spring, extended vacation, business travel and the extreme heat over the summer kept me away from the project. I also wanted to get out a bit and drive some of my other cars.
Back in the spring I was working on the chassis, so that’s where I decided to start back to work. Back in the day the chassis was set up for drag racing. It has a 57-64 Olds/Pontiac rear end with a 4.56 gear. It was a great setup for a 13.5.1, 327 and 4-speed but I’ve decided to change out the gear and install a 3.33. The car is light so this gear should work well behind the Blown Hemi. With the 3.33 gear and 31†tire the engine RPM will be about 2,500 RPM in 4th gear at 70 MPG.
These rear ends are massive and it’s not easy finding parts. I attached a few pics.
