The steeling out begins. 32x5mm flat is cut and cleaned then fibreglassed in. Both front and rear pieces measure approx. 300mm-12". Once dried, some areas are ground back for welding the 25x2 square tube runners and crossbars.
Fires are a problem with welding this close to fibreglass so caution and water are at the ready. Once stitch welds are completed they are cooled immediately with water and wet rags to avoid any undue stress to the fibreglass.
Positioning of the steel runners and cross bars are worked out to suit the floor arrangement, seat frame and fuel tank which will be positioned behind the seat. Also consideration had to be given to the approximate position of the gearstick. Don't want to cut out any tube that doesn't need to be there in the first place !.
