Enhanceing ground clearance-Oil pan chop - Mar 21, 2007

The long delayed Oil pan chop finally is done! with the motor on the engine stand I inverted the assembly, removed the 502 truck pan and cut 1 1/2" off the bottom, put it back on and massaged the oil pickup to the new height required, then fit and tig welded a new bottom out of 1/8" plate steel. wrapped the front up 3/4" to effectively build a skid plate. then I brazed the inside all around the joint, and installed a 1/4" pipe drain plug. this will place the bottom of the pan 1/2" higher than the crossmember of the Wayne Due subframe, so it shouldent strike pavement again!+
