Here are a couple of Chassic Photo's. Unfortunately I don't have the photo's (computer crash) of the RHS as delivered before cutting the tapers.
The Tube is RHS 100x50x3 (4"x2"x1/8" wall). The tapers were cut with an angle grinder and cutting discs. From memory it was roughly one disc per cut. The tapers start approx. 800mm from the front and taper down to 70mm x 50. The first 150mm measuring from the front is 70mm x 50.
They were then clamped and stitch welded (Mig) , roughly 25mm/1" stitches,one side then the other, then fully welded. No warpage was evident.
