WARNING: GRATUITOUS SELF BACK-PATTING AHEAD!
The finished inserts, hot off the sewing machine - like an hour ago. All that remains is to cut them to final size and shape, then start sewing the new covers together. You can't see a lot of detail in these pictures, but they turned out pretty well. They're far from perfect, but I'm satisfied - and as I said before, I'd put it in my truck. Any mistakes in my pleating will now be officially designated "design elements," and enjoyed.
Tuesday's class project will be to cut these to final shape and size, and get to work on the seat bottom foam. I'll want any glue I apply to the foam to completely cure before I start pulling the new covers onto it. Depending on how that goes, I might even get to sit down at the machine and start sewing the covers together.
Picture 1: Did you ever try to stand something up to take a picture of it when it didn't want to stand up? I guess I could have leaned them up against a sheet of plywood or something, but what fun would that be? About the only good part was that the dogs were outside when I took these pictures, so I didn't have to contend with them "helping" me.
Picture 2: The seat bottom is lying on the table, and the back is standing up (sort of) in front of it. All that's left is cutting them to size and shape, then sewing the covers together.
