      Hey guys,
I've got a HF "hvlp" purple gun , and I've got a few questions.

      1) why 2 different guns, one for primer and one for paint? Is'nt cleaning it up good enough?

      2) any one use this one with a 2.0 tip to shoot the spray something like featherfill? http://www.harborfreight.com/household-low-volume-low-pressure-spray-gun-92841.html

I used my HF purple gun with the 1.4 tip to shoot everything because it fell within the spec sheets. I larger tip like 1.8 would've been better for high build primer. I really had to reduce it down so it sprayed well. Other wise you got only half the pattern you normally would have with base and clear.

They call it a low volume low pressure gun , but say it requires 40 to 75 psi to operate and is recommended for spraying latex housepaint . It is just a cheap siphon gun and I personally wouldn't use it on anything automotive . Way back when (1985) I was in the bodyshop business I always used two paint guns because I never cleaned my primer gun . It was always loaded with laquer primer and I used to just loosen the air cap to blow everything out of the passages back into the cup (siphon) and wash the air cap with laquer thinner at the end of the day . I know things have changed , but if I was still in business I would still use a seperate gun for my finish coat because I wouldn't want to take the chance of some primer remnants left somewhere in the gun ruining my paint job . Primers generally dry (dried) faster than the finish coat and there could be a flake of dried primer left somewhere in the gun . Considering the price of HF guns ,, why not have two ?
