Its not just about max amps. It is about where those amps are.

If your going to upgrade then upgrade to a CS series alternatior.

A CS-130 alternatior fits right in plsce of a SI-10/12. But the CS deliveres more amps off idle (like when your stuck in traffic etc). It is just better.

There are tons of writeups and videos that go into detail on how to do the upgrade.

Once your alternatior is upgraded then we talk about relays.

Now you might not think you need a relay. Just run it right off the battery etc.

Well relays are a switch. They can keep power at the fan. But relays can also be a fuse holder. So it you have a wrench etc block the fan and the motor loads up. It will trip the fuse instead of burning up the hard wire going to your battery.

Say hello to my little friend.

30 amp relay with a 30 amp fuse. Keeps that power close yet still safe.

If you run relays with the fuse built in at the location then you can eliminate a large majority of the fuse block.

      I am talking about these.

If you have say a fuel pump you can have one of these in the trunk. Or for the taillights etc. Loose your taillights you go back and replace the easy to reach fuse. Easy to test the circuit/switch also.

No laying on your back bs. Keeps your switches happy(lower amps through switch) and most of the electrical clean.
