I was wondering if anyone could tell me exactly what these markings apply to on a 350 block i have. I think it means 1% more tin and 2% more nickel. Please help

From all I`ve read it seems to be what it means. however, others doubt it.

It means you can sell it for more money to people that think there is some magical association between numbers cast on a cylinder block and power.:thumbup:

Put it up for sale and see what I mean.

I bought the engine from a man that had it in his log truck. he said he had it in there for several years. When i broke the engine down I found that it is standard bore with a very small ridge. It had 0462 heads on it also. How can you tell if you have a steel crank? I have three cranks in my shop one came out of this engine. The guy I bought it from said he bought it out of a junk yard for $100 and ran it for 7 years. I bought it for $50 bucks from him along with three other 350 engines. All of them are complete except the one with 010 020 on the block. He doesnt remember what it came out of.

ive seen several blocks with 010 on them but this is the only one with 010 020 on it. how many are out there

The extra nickel makes the block more resistant to wear. The tin makes it pour better, resulting in a better quality casting.

Not to be confused with the 010 cast in to the bellhousing mounting flange. Then it simply denotes a 4" bore, sometimes.
