I'm wanting to put a 12 bolt in my '66 Skylark but I need a little wheel clearance. I was wondering if any year Camaro axles are narrower than the '66 Chevelle. My thought was that I could pick up a 12 bolt for a chevelle and some used Camaro axles and have the tubes shortened to fit the axles. What do you guys think?

Been there...............tried to do that....

The Camaro (67 - 69) and the early Chevelles had the same width axle shafts.

Camaro/Chevelle is 29.125 inches

The most narrow factory ones I have ever found were 65 - 67 Chevy II with a 12 bolt.

Chevy II is 28.422 inches ..... and NOT MANY of those around. I bought new ones for less than $100 a pair ....in 1970.....for a 67 Nova.

Not really worth the time and effort for .703 or less than 3/4 of a inch per side IMHO.......:)
