Folks need to be a little more specific when talking about old cars, i.e., year, make, body style.
Well, enough of that, I've found the best roof filler inserts to come from station wagons and panel trucks. Make a cardboard curvature pattern (gutter to gutter). Also make a butcher or poster paper pattern of the roof opening. Take these with you the local boneyard and see what you come up with.
Best of Luck!

I know people use Caravan roofs a lot, it has grooves in the top that give it a bit of style. But when you put it on don't use epoxy (you might as well use duct tape :) )

Hey There....I am new to the board, but read this post and wanted to see if I could help out a little.

I just recently helped a freind "fill" the roof on a 1935 Ford 2 door Sedan. We used the roof skin from a 1980's Chevy S-10 Blazer. The contour of the roof was such that minmal "filler" was needed once the skin was welding in place. These old cars don't have near as much contour on the roof as they do on the rest of the car.

This isn't the best pic...but maybe it will help.

We have chopped and filled 3 of these cars this year and used 1970 GM mid-size 4 door roof sections,,,Pontiac lamans...chevelle....cutlass. The contour is perfect for 35 and 36 roofs. You can see more pictures of these roof fills on our website @

When I filled the roof on my 32 coupe, I had no idea what top would fit. I had the good fortune of having access to a few scrap cars. After finding what I thought might be a suitable donor, I cut the middle of the roof off the donor, from the windshield to the back window and a few inches wider that the hole I had to fill. I then laid this on top of the coupe and slid it back and forth until all the curves seemed to match up, no gaps etc. Then from inside the car I just marked the outline of the opening on the filler piece and cut and trimmed it till it dropped right into the opening. This worked for me but of course I was dealing with a smaller section to fill than you have with your sedan. Hope this helps.

Walden Speed Shop makes roof inserts for all Ford coupes and sedans 28-36. They have the right contour front to back and side to side. Best of all there is no paint to remove dents to fix and they fit perfect. No guessing at the junk yard. Their number is 806-274-4026
