If this is a street rod, and the piece doesn't have to be original, just use metal edging with pre-drilled holes available at any hardware store and glue some leather, vinyl, or whatever over the top of it and screw it down over the edge of the carpet. Naturally, you'd have to do it to both sides of the car.

I see you're from Madison. Have you ever checked out the Little Carlisle swap meets and car shows at the fairgrounds in Jefferson? They have one every spring and every fall. You might find some parts there, and that's only 40 miles from you.
