Progress is slowing as the project moves into small tedious jobs that seem to take forever

Got the engine and the mounts mocked up, along with getting the steering reconnected

Original rear got pulled today, cleaned up the leaf springs, mocked up the 8.2 and removed two of the old crossmembers...not a lot of progress but some

Time for some overdue updates

Took the engine mounts to a local fab shop for final welding....

Front fender got primed...it's now in paint but I didn't snap any pics

Engine's finally sitting on bolted mounts... truck dropped roughly 1.5inches with the engines weight on the chassis

Trans placement looks like it won't cause too many fitment issues

Final cross member fitment will be 3" up from the bottom of the frame rail....the tail shaft angle sits 2.75 degrees downward

Took the rear to a local 4x4 shop to have the R/P and diff installed. I've had them set up gears before and never had an issue.

Limited options when it comes to diffs for the 8.2 so I ended up with the Yukon unit

Axles and brakes on

Followed by the diff cover.... moved the shocks to behind the rear as opposed to in front

Rims got some paint love

Tires mounted and finally it's a roller again

Rear shock pics are still in mock up...cross member will be sitting lower in the frame rail

Got the rear shocks fully mounted @ a 10degree angle but man they look really straight up in photos

Spent some time putting the dash back together

New chrome bezel, polished up the stainless trim and the ignition switch

Filled some holes and then cut some new ones

So the last beetle that got put together was painted arktis... original color to the car and one year only color... debating painting the firewall arktis, bright white or sticking to all black ...

So... turns out I'm the grand winner in the bondo lottery.

Much like the fenders, lots of dents and an abuse of bondo to shape and flatten out the surface...

Made some more progress with the metal work... having a heat wave the last couple of days sort of slows things down. My headers showed up yesterday... Patriot tri 5 fenderwell headers. Needed these to clear the steering box and the motor mounts but they are a little on the crazy side

More of the same...fill some holes and drill some holes

Was going to run two 2 5/8 gauges offset to the left in the overhead panel... but the curvature of the panel made it impossible for the gauges to appear optically "straight". So moving the gauges into the middle of the panel alleviates that issue

looks like a solid truck, like pugsy said, dents beat rust any day
always wanted to build a pre-war truck until i sat in one, at 6'4" my knees were on the dash hard
i laugh when i think of the waltons driving 3 in the cab, my shoulders are half the width of the cab

That's funny, but close to home. I love these old trucks, but my buddy and I tried to sit in one together. He is 6'3 about 350 and I am 6 foot and about 300. We touch in the middle and each has an arm hanging out the window. They were not made for buffet busters. I have a 47 Ford that's a little roomier.

Been a while since I've done any updates...so it's the good, the bad and the ugly update

Finally made a decision on what to do with the running boards... spray on bed liner makes them useable without worrying about scratches and rock chips.

Body got some paint which is the good

And then the bad and the ugly.... Rolled it partially outside to take a look in the sun light and didn't notice the tent door was hanging a little low... anyone interested in a project vehicle...
