1955 Bel Air wiper trouble

Is there a conversion kit to replace the cable and drum wiper transmission for a 55 Bel Air? I'm trying to help a friend get his wipers working. We have a manual for this car and have laid the cables on the drums per the book and a couple of other ways with the same result each time, The cables roll of the end of the drum for the right side wiper. The driver side wiper works fine. Any ideas would be appreciated. Devon
