I did a motor swap on a 1955 customline i put a 272 y block from a boat it spins over but dosent start.

Do you have power to the coil and spark to the plugs? Fuel when you open the throttle? Have you messed with the distributor/timing?

I replaced the orig. motor with a 272 from a 1955 boat I was told that the engine turns in reverse after i had put it in what do i need to do.

The cam must be repaced with a "conventional" one. Melling offers a "stock replacement', part no. SYB-2. There may be some "performance' grinds out there.

The distributor gear will also need to be changed to the "conventional" one.

Also, You must have a starter that spins in the right direction.

Boat engine

Was this a full fledged boat motor with the aluminum front cover, twin side draft carbs, wet exhaust etc? They also have a valve cover oil fill which is unusual for automotive Y-blocks. The counter-rotation version had a gear drive camshaft with no chain - you would have seen it if you had the front cover off.

Chances are - its an air/fuel/spark thing........
