I have a 1955 Belair, 350 engine, front motor mounts, belhouseing side mounts, 4 speed transmission with rear tailshaft mount. I am installing a 500 CPP steering box, I am currently running Hooker Competition Headers but I have been told these are not going to work with the new 500 box. I would like to change them anyway because they are showing signs of rusting, second set I have put on for the same reason "RUST". I was thinking of going with the Patriots H 8025-1 Metalic Ceramic Coating, was wondering if anyone knows if this will work. I do not have angle plug heads. I use the stock castiron bellhousing and old-style starter that has been reworked. Any suggestions would be appreciated. The Hookers have a very nice crisp sound with the 280 grind Comp-Cam, I would like to find something comperable that looked and sounded good and would work.

I see you've been "ignored" so I'll give you my experience with Patriot headers. They make nice parts and some not so nice, I bought a set of ceramic SBC headers for a '32 Ford that were VERY nice....16 ga. tubes and 3/8" flanges, the fit was perfect. I also bought a set of uncoated headers for a 500 Cadillac in a '32 Ford.....TERRIBLE welding and they didn't fit. The end port bolt holes didn't line up with the heads and the collectors hit the oil pan. They were sent back.

The fitment issue is up to you, I would call Pertronix (parent company) and get transferred to Patriot, I would think that their "tech" could advise you. Make sure you tell them that you want the 3/8 flanges though because they make both 5/16 and 3/8.

Leroy's 55 Headers & 500 CPP

Thanks for the reply, I have done some more research and am going to probably go with Sanderson Headers unless somone sees this post and steers me away from sanderson's, they sound like they have a good product. Thanks again for the knowledge.

Keep researching, I have used 2 sets of Sanderson's and even though they are very heavy duty parts they are waaaay overpriced and the insides of the ports at the flange are some of the worst I've ever seen. In order for them to surface grind that area so you don't need to run a gasket (as they claim) they build up a huge amount of weld. Once it's ground down flat the port is full of nasty left over weld that they don't grind out. Take a look before you buy.

Leroys 55 Headers & 500 CPP Steering Box

Thanks for your reply, 327Nut what header do you like, I have personally installed two sets of silver coated Hooker Competition Headers and both sets started rusting in no time, they sound good but wont clear 500 steering box.

I would call CPP and ask them if they had a header that would fit your application first. If that doesn't work then I would look at the Sanderson's but if you find a header that might work get them uncoated. You know what, I have some other info....I'll send you a private message on that.

I have a '55 with a CPP 500 box and William's Classic Chassis Works full-length headers.
It's tight, but they fit. I did clearance the casting of the box a little though.

The bad thing about Patriot that I've heard is they are inconsistently made.

You cannot go wrong with Sanderson headers and by all means pay for the ceramic coating:thumbup:. You might consider fender well hearders for your 55 Chevy they are a pretty common item. The collector comes out behind the front tire and can be capped off then an off shoot exhause pipe can be installed from the collector to your exhaust system
