Hello guys my name is Jose. I live in Wyoming. I need help getting pointed in the right direction. I have a 1968 Chevy C10 that belonged to my grandfather now I own it. I bought a 87-95 block that is bare and it is a 2 bolt main. I want to be able to play in it, but I also want to cruise the mountains with the old girl. Also I forgot what would be the best transmission for it. I did put a 305 that is wore out. Just to get it running again. Thank you guys for your help!!!

Welcome to the site.
If it were my truck, I like old school, a mild 350 sbc and a T-350 transmission or a T-400.
I know the big thing nowadays is LS motor's, EFI and over-drive transmissions, and there is nothing wrong with that, but I like it simple.
My good buddy back in the days had a 56 F100 and he dropped in a mild 350 sbc/ T-350 combo and not only did that truck haul our dirt bikes all over the place, but at any given time, that truck would give any muscle car in town a run for the money.
Good luck with your build.

Like Camaro said a simple 350 would be prefect and I would go with overdrive transmission (700).

As for building it or by a create motor the choice is yours, building your own doesn’t really save your much if any money.

If you build your own you will want some decent pistons and as for heads just get a set of new after market aluminum heads, cost wise it is a wash with getting an old pair rebuilt and old set will not work as good.

One thing you can do is search the form for 350 builds and start reading.

Also for about the same cost you could get a 383 create motor for same cost as 350, this would give you a lot more torque which would help when towing and cruising the mountains, there is a lot of info on 383 on form as well
