?can i get roller rockers for it to get hp ?
may be cam down the line to use tow vehicle but would like to keep lower rpm 3000 down would be awesome rough idle to :mwink: ..would be going in a 1ton truck that manual 4 speed . and if possible keep original valve train

pull the head and port it when the header comes.Yes you can buy a cam for it.put good exhaust on the truck also.

you do not have to take off the head.its easier to change valve springs with the head off.A quick clean up of the exhaust ports would be nice.Change valve seals,check guides etc,whats the mileage on the engine?

l'd like to keep the same valves and valve springs. Would you happen to recommend a cam that would work that's not too pricey? And operate in only the rpm's in the range (3000 and lower) l wanna do. Thanks

80k time for springs?yes you can get roller rockers though I doubt its worth the money,especially with old springs

.5- 5hp on the high end if all your doing is roller rockers. There not going to help HP much of anything.

292 was never designed for HP. It is a low RPM truck engine, and coupled with the 4spd, will do anything you need. You can cam it and get the HP really good but going with too wild of a cam will eliminate the low end torque that the truck will need. 292's can and have been cranked to 600 HP with turbo/ Forced induction, but those engines will not be good in a truck.. 292 came in 1 tons for at least a few years. I worked on 1. 1980 with 292/4spd. It was a factory chassis cab and the old guy bought it new. He was an electrician but had since retired and just used the truck as personal transportation. He had a Reading truck box on it.
