Hi guys,not really a hot rod question but does anyone know if a head off of a 97 2.2 out of a cavilier fit on a 96 s-10 2.2??

If the casting no. is the same. The difference between the front wheel and rear wheel applications is just a soft plug change.

The casting no. is inside by the valve springs and you can get the metric soft plug at any good auto parts store.

You will need to have the head resurfaced and new head bolts are mandatory.

Yep. You will have to remove the soft plug at the end of the cylinder head opposite of the end that the EGR valve and t-stat bolt onto. As Bob said, the head bolts need to be replaced and the head resurfaced. The torque is:

Step one: Long bolts 46 ft lbs, short bolts 43 ft lbs.

Step two: Turn all bolts 90 degrees (1/4 turn).

sorta off topic

Just proud of my antifreeze leaker, (1992) 2.2L has almost 400,000 kms (and raced everyday) . I think GM must have learn how to finally build a car from watching Ford for 100 years : )
