I want to run 220 into my garage primarily to power my compressor. My idea is to set up an outlet rather than hard wire the compressor. That way I could make a power cord from the compressor which would also allow me to use the same outlet for other 220 items such as the mig welder. Pros? Cons? Thanks.

I have 5 220 outlets in my garage. 2 are dedicated to electric heat and my compressor is plugged into one most of the time but I can easily roll the welder to that end and swap plugs.
As far as electrical code issues, the plug would not be rated as the required disconnect for a larger compressor. The compressor would need a switch or starter on it. My other outlet is wired for the RV and is on the side of the building but I can still haul the welder over there, too.
