Was having trouble with an old carburetor. Bought a new 500 cfm Edelbrock (1404). Fires right up after installed but won’t stay running. I’m thinking I have a vacuum leak because the idle gets higher. Or could it be my timing? I haven’t touched the distributor but the plugs and wires are new. I have videos of what’s it’s doing. I’m kinda stuck, any help would be well appreciated!!

Welcome to the forum.

I would definitely look thoroughly for vacuum leaks because I had similar issues with my Thunderbird which turned out to be a split vacuum line. At some point, plugging all the vacuum ports could remove that variable until you get it figured out. Off timing could easily contribute to your problem as well. Another thing is double and triple check plug wires and the firing order, also to make sure the wires are not one post off all the way around the cap. You need to get a timing light hooked up to see where it is at.

More details would be helpful to let much more experienced people than me figure out your problem.

Good luck,

TBird
