Hello everyone from fort myers florida.
I built a swampbuggy took 10 years!!!!
I have a 1979 chevy 292 inline 6 with an automatic turbo 350 and a 2-1/2 ton militery 5 speed trany behind that going in to a 5 ton truck transfer case and running 2-1/2 ton running gear off of a duce and a half 6x6.
it has 16x9x24 tractor tires on it
yea I like to play in the mud and hunt down in the everglades for 10 days at a time...
I also have another 292 in the shop for parts if needed.
and 2 extra heads just incase.

I just put up a bunch of pictures of it today and it`s just one cam up from stock. { RV cam } also an offerhouser intake 4 bbl carb headers
out side of that it runs great. So far I have tore off two bumpers from mudden trucks and pulled out a bunch of trucks that were stuck at the ******* yatch club
I can put it 4 wheel drive low and secound gear on the 5 speed and it feels like a bulldozer

Thanks for posting those pics. Very creative and I admire your fabrication on this project!

I would like to pick your brain on a few things if you don't mind...

-What prompted you to use the 292? I think straight sixes are neat and wondering how you came to that decision.

-Can you explain how you are using the auto trans in front of the 5 speed? I am guessing that is the primary and the 5 speed starts the initial gear reduction?

-How far to the swamp? Backyard or do you have to travel? How fast does it go? Or, do you mostly crawl?

I hope I am not sounding too ignorant here. I am very curious about this engineering work of art!

Hello Grease_Fever
Thanks for asking and no I dont mind questions.
My cousin had an inline pre 70`s ford and it had a lot of torque for pulling and I liked that. I had a 3.8 buick in the buggy at first and hated to work on it.just to time it was a pain in the A##
So I started buying the 250`s 4 of them and just playing around with them and then I came across the 292 1979 inline started to read about them so I just bought 2 of them.
One for the buggy and the other for parts if needed There easy on gas and real easy to work on. You dont half to take off 45 things to get to whatever to work on. The heads on the 250 are the same thats on the 292 I have 3 extras { never know }
I put the 5 speed behind the auto becouse of the gearing..I think I have around 38 diffrent gears. When you sea some swampbuggys they have a gear box after the auto or 4-5 speed tranny this is only set for one set of gears...Well if they want to change gears thay half to tear it apart and take out thoes gears and put in diffrent ones..Well all I half to do is shift. Now this will blow your mind ..Put the auto and the 5 speed in reverse and the buggy WILL go foward..weard right...it does... you can do that and walk away and come back in 3 hours and it hasent rollen 20 feet ..those gears are used for when you get stuck.. to stop the mud from sucking down your tires when you walking out of where ever.I useuly drive around in high range and 4th gear.. when I put it in 5th gear IV only gone about 35 mph. didnt want to push it ...Most of the time IM crawling when IM in the woods I can put the auto in drive and the 5 speed in 2nd and dont even half to work the gas ..IV been about 35 miles back in the big cypress hunting for 10 days at a time depending how many permetts I can get. Nice talken to ya Capt. Kurt Fort Myers Florida
BATTEN DOWN THE HATCHES BOY`S IT`S FIXEN TO COME UP A BLOW. WE GOT A MEAN ONE DOWN SOUTH HEADED THIS WAY.....
