SBC 383 race motor

Seems like there's enough clearance but I figured I'd ask. There's only about 3/8 of an inch between the oil filter and the header collector.

Or should I look into a remote oil filter?

It's fine, won't even blacken the paint on the filter, so it certainly isn't going to harm the oil or the filter inside.

Only exceptions to this would be turbo inlet plumbing, or headers on a endurance or long range high RPM situation like long oval or road race, marine offshore.

This is going into a road race car. So up to 40 minute sessions at 4-6k RPM. I've already got most of the plumbing for a remote filter, just need the part that screws into the block. It'll make filter changes easier anyway.
