I am building up a 302 - 347 stroker and using a HV oil pump. The gallery from the pump to filter is now 9/16" and the gallery into the main gallery is 450" Should this gallery be enlarged to accommodate the increased voluem?

The restriction will increase pressure and reduce volue in the current configuration.

The restriction won't increase pressure since the pump can only supply stock levels of pressure. It wouldn't matter if the gallery were .005", it will still be the same pressure. They are fine the way they are. Opening up volume in the gallery can have very negative effects, like increased time to oil pressure at startup.

The mains also dont' use a lot of volume. The size of the gallery is more than enough to supply the mains. If you go opening things up, you might reduce pressure

I have used standerd volume oil pumps in my mustangs. My currant 408 has a standard pump it make over 600hp N/A The HV pumps suck the pan dry

Oil is non-compressable.... pressure gain at startup will not be affected.

Pressure is a function of bearing/ lifter clearance and oil pump bypass settings. Maximum oil pressure will be limited by the pump spring. Increasing gallery diameter will not affect pressure.

I have heard of no oiling problems below 7000 rpm. Most experts recommend only a standard volume pump since excess oil will bypass anyway, and not get sucked out of the pan as many believe. Oil return problems at sustained high rpm conditions can cause oil pan levels to decrease.

In any case use a heavy duty oil pump drive shaft and synthetic oil.

If you choose you might radius the corners of the gallery junctions, such as in the valley under the "cup plug", as well as any other location you can easily get to. This will allow the oil to turn the corner with less turbulence and restriction.

Install threaded plugs at the gallery ends for security.
