I recently bought a 305 chevy engine,I was wondering what I could do to boost the horse power alittle bit. Mind you I don`t need a race engine, I just want Ideas that would boost HP but be easy and cheap. <img src="confused.gif" border="0">
Are we talking fuel injection, throttle body or multi-port, or carb set-up? If it's carbed I would start with a decent street cam and lifter set, roller timing chain, alluminun intake, and a decent four barrel carb. This will give any stock engine some extra kick. If you don't want to spend too much money and whatever car you're putting this engine in has a stock trans and rear I would say this is a good start. Even a decent intake and four barrel carb will help if you can't afford the cam and lifter set yet. A good ignition system is also advisable. But for financial reasons I have taken quite a few stock V-8's and done what I described to get a little extra kick out of them and ran them with the factory electronic ignition or a good dual point distributor. We're not talking race cars here but a way of getting some good burnout capabilities without spending a hole lot of money.
Im running two 305s one is in a car and one is in a van the van is my tow vehicle the van has a 440 lift,headers,two barrel has good torq the car has a 442,465 lift,holley,torquer,headers it makes a good cruiser fairly easy on gas both cams has good idle car seems to run pretty good considering what it is just a few ideals hope this helps headers would be a easy and cheap way to start

the engine is going to be carburated. I recently bought an intake to make the engine a 4b. I thought making it alittle bit of a high rise would help to.I also figured on getting headers for it.My problem is I don`t know to much about what is compatible with what.
You can actually get a lot of help just checking out some of the info given by the manufactures on there sights. If you go to <a href="http://www.compcams.com" target="_blank">www.compcams.com</a> for example in their cams catalog sometimes you can see profiles and idle characteristics of different cams. Before buying anything you should post in one of our forums here and let people give you feedback. Our opinions may vary in some cases but it will give you ideas to think about. For example, in a mostly stock street car I would stick with a dual-plane performer manifold (a high-rise can sacrifice some of your off idle torque and idle quality), a four barrel carb with vac. secondaries/electric choke between 600 and 700cfm, a cam similar to what wrenchturner listed for his car,and a roller chain since you'll have that apart to do the cam swap. You may not be out-running any Corvettes but you'll have a good running set-up without costing too much money.
yea the intake i bought is dual plane . The guy I bought it bfrom recommended the same thing you just mentioned. He told me that a quadrajet would be good for this set up.Ya think this is good or would something else work better?
That's a personal preference I guess but I will say I've had a couple camaros and a nova with Q-jets and really liked them. With rather small primaries I actually got pretty good gas mileage on the highways and I loved the sound of those secondaries coming alive.
