I think i have some pretty good friends. I have a buddy that gave me a 327 block and i was wondering will it be a good engine to replace my tired 350. I really want to use this engine, and was wondering how i need to set this engine up. The truck is daily driven, and i want it to be realiable with around 300-350 hp.
I plan on ordering a rebuild kit from paw. Someone told me to use the vortech heads and manifold, and appropriate carb. I also need to know what headers to use and i would like to keep evrything from my old 350(a/c, p/s, etc.)PLEASE help i'm ready to start building

After you do all that to the 327, it will feel like the stock 350.

You would be way ahead to do all that to your 350.

correct me if I'm wrong, but if this is a large journal block that's nice and ready to go, couldn't he throw in a 350 or even a 400 crank and make the appropriate motor wiht the block (350 or 383?)

Its a 1988 chevy 1/2 ton with a 350 tbi unit. I figured that i could build something totally different and be pretty reliable with adequate hp. Plus the block is free and really good shape.

I'm not sure i'll find out. I think large, if not is it worth building to my my specs. I figured i could add a decent cam, heads ,pistons, etc. to make a different combo in a 88 truck. What mods do i need to do make it work with my tranmission. Its the turbo 700.

The 327 is a good engine and can run along side a 350 any day...it just has a narrower prefered range of operation and you have to taylor the drivetrain to match.

What are your specs?

Thats exactly right. All opinions aside, it will bolt in just fine. Trucks are heavy, going mild you'll miss the bottom end you would have with a mild 350 compared to a mild 327.

I do agree with Ghetto Jet, the 350 would be a better suited engine for a full size brick. I would rebuild the 327 for a lighter more aerodynamic car and rebuild your 350 for the truck.

There is no substitute for cubic inches.:rolleyes: Why do you think GM dropped the 327? Mo power, same money.

Hey, I'm not knocking the little 327, I've seen some nice running ones. I'm just saying that you can do the same things to the 350 that you are going to do to the 327 and have gobs more power.

You could probably sell the 327 to some one restoring a pre 69 for enough to build the 350.:thumbup:

I'm not sure as what i'm going to throw into the block. I know i need the torque move the truck(cam, heads,etc.). Do yall have any suggestions as tho what i should stuff it with? The truck is daily driven with some interstate use. I'm thinking about vortech heads if that'll work, and the matching edelbrock cam,intake,and carb(the package deal in the jegs catalog).

I couldn't agree more you will need to hop it up just to reach the power of stock stock 350. You'd be much farther ahead just to start with the 350. People go to trouble stroking 350's to 383 for this very reason, to go from a 350 to a 327 you will be taking a step backwards.

Drive your truck and in the mean time be building the 327 ; you would never know the difference If that 327 had a 350 breather on it . There is not enough difference to worry about.

Im not sure either,but when I find out,Im gettin two,cuz Im older than you,and I can afford em! Hmmm,I think they're those electric fan turbos you see on e bay,not sure.

I know. My guess is he is referring to the old breathers with the intake snout opening that is about the size of a ping pong ball.

Just a guess.
