Okay so I finially traded my Firebird for a 34 Chevy Sedan. It's a 4 door with the street rod chassis. Question-- On the roof was that a canvas that covered it. The wood rails are there that have been replaced. How is this sealed? I've looked for hours on the net & I'm not having any luck with photo's of the roof.

Canvas top

Yup..common in those years were canvas top over wood bows..lot of car mfr's used that detail..

What was the purpose of the top? Was it just looks or was it supposed the be the invention of the sunroof?

I believe it was the way the bodies were made back then, a roof couldnt be stamped as one solid piece. Thats what I always thought. But they are permanently fastened, so it wasnt meant to be a moonroof.
