I'm putting my 350 together and am replacing my rusted timing cover. I was about to weld on the timing pointer when I noticed the new balancer is different from the old one. The engine is an 86 truck motor with a 1 pce. rear seal.
Below are 2 photos of my balancers. The black one is the new one I have. The red one is the old one with the pointer off to the right. The red one hasn't spun yet (the mark is in the right place still). Will this new one work on this engine or might it vibrate???? or.. ???

You caught a potential headache that many do not.
At least not until trying to start and time new engine. :smash:

You could re-mark the new balancer and use the old style timing tab location, if your preference is the same as mine and poncho62's.

Thanks for the replies. I think I will use a hacksaw to remark the new balancer. With my accessories,I believe off to the side will be best.Photo below of my accessories on the 283 which will be going on the 350. Pointer on the 283 on the right side and I had no problem seeing it there.

Thanks again,Pugsy
