Expense

Well, I don't want to say cost is not a concern. But I figured I would need to spend a few thousand on it. I guess my initial questions would be concerning a good combination of cam, lifters, intake, carb, etc. I really have very little experience so I will be learning as I go. I appreciate the input very much.

I agree with the Vortec option. If you weren't going Vortec though, what would you recommend? Any opinions on cam, intake, carb, ignition? What about converting to EFI? My goal is to build reliable horspower. Something that is not going to break parts all the time. I want it to sound good at idle AND have the power to glue you to the seat at take off!
