Hello,
I have a 1984 gmc truck with a 350 v8.
It has a secondary oil cooler. the oil cooler line popped and all the oil drained out on a nice hot day. when I noticed it it was knocking badly.
After I filled the oil and drove it home it has been shooting oil out the tailpipe.
I would appreciate any info on what the problem would be. valves or rings. I plan on doing the work myself so let me know what you all think.
Thanks

Ouch!!!

Sorry but my opinion is you need to rebuild the entire engine. It must have been running with no oil for a while for it to start knocking. Knocking would generally indicate that one of the bearings either Rod or Main are gone or that one of the little ends on the rods has gone. As for oil out the tailpipe I would think Rings But it could possibly be valve guides. Two problems it was knocking and it shoots oil.

Me thinks total rebuild or replace
Sorry
Ric
