Can someone tell me what needs to be changed when putting a 1988 350 motor into a 1999 chevy pu with a 350 vortec specifically the crank sensor area?

Was going to try a similar project but was told not to mess around with any car newer than a 94 because of the computer. Almost everything needs to be changed. As one mechanic told me, "you want even get the electric door locks to work."

Depends on how you want to go, to convert the pick up to support all the systems and the EFI of the 99 Vortec is complicated and expensive as all the 99's systems have to be integrated into the 88. If you want to just use the 99's engine with either TBI or a carb the process is a lot simpler and cheaper.

So what does the 88 currently have for induction TBI or a carb? The transmission if automatic will be a 700R4 unless it has a heavy duty tow package in which case it might be the 3 speed TH400. A manual is also simple to swap.
