I have a 97 350 Vortec engine that was run out of oil. I want to reuse the roller lifters and PM connecting rods if at all possible to save some cash. I intend to build a 383 out of it. What is a high quality affordable stroker kit that has proved itself? I was looking at the Eagle kits and they seem to be pretty good? Any others? Also, would it be cheaper to buy an aftermarket crank and everything else seperately since I already have the PM connecting rods? Most stroker kits that i have looked at include the connecting rods with them, and i would just be wasting my money on new ones if i could have the old ones rebuilt. Any Ideas? Thank you.

I'm using the Eagle's 4340 383 crank and H beam rods with JE pistons on my blower motor, they're very nice parts, but piecing things together can be expensive. How "out of oil" did you run that motor? I'd reconsider the lifters, and at least inspect them very closely for galling. Personally, I wouldn't have the warm and fuzzies using parts that may have been abused. You'll have a good chunk in that motor in the end, so choose wisely.

Eagle is good though I have heard some problems with diffrent products. Do a search here and you can see some on them. You can also go for SCAT products which are just as good. Your going to need diffrent pistons for the stroker so that means you would have to have have the connecting rods removed from the pistons now and then put back on the new pistons. I myself would just buy new connecting rods and have the new pistons put on them. Thats just me though. I would like a fresh new bottom end and for the price it's hard to beat eagle and Scat.

Either Scat or Eagle both make good rotating assemblies with the Scat being a little cheaper. You will need the stroker crank designed for the one-piece seal that your block has. You will also have to block machined for the extra side clearance that the 3.75 stroke needs. Also check rod to cam clearance with the 5.7 rods. With the vortec heads on top of a late-model hydraulic-roller block, you will have an excellent combination. Check out Speedway Motors in Lincoln since you live in Nebraska.

Thanks for the replys. Fortunately i wasnt the one who ran it out of oil. This guy had to do something while changing oil in it. In the meantime his wife jumped in it and headed down the road. She didnt get far though. Ouch. So i bought the entire motor from him for $200. I took the vortec heads off and stuck another $200 in them. Bigger springs, valve job, etc. Anyway, has anyone had good luck with speedway shortblocks? I know they are pretty well known for stock car motors. Also, i was thinking about running the GMPP HOT cam, 218 228, .525 lift intake, .525 lift exhaust. I think it would work great in a 383. Any ideas? Thanks.

go to ebay,racers outlet,dirt track thunder,and there are many more where you can get eagle or scat balanced 383 kits for 700.00.i was just on eagles site and they said they've had some trouble recenly with people selling copies of their products.if you go to eagle specialty products first they will give you a good list of ebay stores to choose from.you will save several hundred dollars doing it this way.i live about one mile from a jegs store and have spent alot of money there and they have treated me well but since i started buying on ebay,,jegs 5.7 chevy eagle sir 5140 rods 240.00,,,,racers outlet on ebay 190.00,,,jegs speed pro hypereutectic pistons coated 272.00,,,racers outlet on ebay,,170.00.i like jegs very much but you see where i'm going with this.

Well be carefull. The title says .550 but when I got them I said I called Pioneer. They said the rv943 springs he sells as .550s are really .490" lift Z28s! And the ".600" rv1943 he sells are the .100" long Z28s, which are the true .550s

Well,I received this kit today and it was all messed up. They gave me a manual flywheel for my automatic and the pistons were flat tops when they should have been dished...oops. Looks like my good price might be a pain. Oh well, they are sending me a return slip so I can send it back and are going to put together a new kit. Keeping my fingers crossed this time.

Anybody else ever buy stuff from Motor Works out of Spokane Washington??? Any problems???

I have some 383 Eagle stuff on eBay right now. It is almost brand new...but one piston has the ringland broke. That is all that is wrong with it.

Personally I've sold a little on ebay and made people happy but it seems like every other time I order something...it isn't really what I was expecting to receive. Oh well...

Personally I like the local speedshops but the best priced and best service mail order is Powerhouse, home of the 383 stroker.

Like I've said before, Once I ordered an 11:1 350 kit and (they didn't tell me when I was ordering) the pistons were all balanced tp within 1 gram, full floater pins and lightweight for being "claimer" pistons(each was 706 grams).

Scat and Eagle make good kits - if you have the coin Callies makes an excelent kit - they have a very thouroug inspection process withing thier factory. They are a bit pricey though. Really depends on how much HP you will be making to determine if it is worth spending the $$$ in an expensive rotating assembly.
