Hey Guys,
After searching the web for good advice from knowledgeable people I keep being led back here. This site has alot of info and hopefully you guys can help me out. Ok, my 96 S-10 apparently overheated due to a stuck thermostat and blew the head gasket, put a bunch of stress cracks in the heads, bent a rod and I am thinking now that the bent rod connected with a piston. I was wondering if these symptoms would point to a cracked piston or something else. After replacing the heads, gaskets, and rods there still is alot of smoke coming from the exhaust, which I think is oil burning. The idle fluctuates and I can see the tach going crazy, and it also lags badly. It hesitates, has awful throttle response, and it is pretty bad shape. With all that in mind, what does the diagnosis sound like top you guys? Like I said, to me it sounds like my piston might have cracked, so now its burning oil and losing compression... Let me also say I don't know a whole lot about engines, just bits and pieces but all that sound logical to me.

Thanks in advance,
David

Well what i wanted to do, if it were worth it, was to raplace whatever is still acting up, because it only has 65,000 miles on it and sell it. Then I could venture into the 383 conversion which is my current goal with the truck. Does that sound like too much work, because I am in the process of saving up some money and buying the block and having it machined in about a month. Depending on how much it would cost for me to fix my current engine. But thanks for the response. I will probable run a compression test on in monday. Anyone else with ideas...?

Thanks,
David
