Did you check the pilot bushing/bearing for wear?

Bob
It has a newer pilot but its brass could a old worn out input bearing in the trans before rebuild worn it out?
And how much play can i have in the input shaft after rebuild?
You did put a new seal in the front bearing retainer? Have you rechecked to to make sure it's not split?

There's a seal inside the collar which rides on the input shaft. Several reasons for it to leak:

1) seal worn out

2) input shaft bearing shot

3) mainshaft to input shaft bearing shot

4) pilot bearing in crank miss aligned or worn out

5) bellhousing or transmission not aligned to the back of the engine.
