hi was wanting some info on using a 87 to 93 cavalier grandam etc steering rack on an old mopar like mine i seen a post about doing this would like to know some info on this swap any info would be greatly appreciated

40 chrysler steering swap

The late 72 to 76 volare front ends are an easy swap and used by alot of us mopar guys. You can usually find a decent car on Ebay or get lucky and have your local wrecking yard use their search base to find you one. I have a 40 Desoto Sedan and have a donor car just waiting that I found on ebay. Too good of a deal to pass it up so I drove and hauled it back to Texas

Take a look at the P15-D24 website, and do a search. I think you'll find quite a bit of information about R&P steering conversions that should apply to your car. As well as a lot of other information you're bound to find useful.

I have 2 Cavalier R&P units that I was going to install in the stock '40 Chrysler Royal.
The first one that I was going to use was a '94 with a GM pump.
Then I read up on them and found that there was a Z24 version which had a quicker ratio....so I got hold of a '98 Z24, I'd have to look to see if there's a pump for it.
They are both CTO; Center Take Off.

I can check the weight on each tomorrow.

Not sure what I'd need for them yet... will have to see what I've got in them.

I also made disc brake mounting plates that will mount the calipers for Ford Explorer rotors to the original Chrysler spindles which are not going to be used either.
These 3/8" thick plates have already been zinc plated.

The Ford rotors are also for sale. The Chrysler hubs have been modified to accept the Ford rotors. I can check the thickness of them.

And, I've modified the original Chrysler steering arms to accommodate the Cavalier R&P by moving them towards the spindle CL 1/2 the distance of the lower mounting holes or 1 1/8"

All of this was my earlier attempt at retaining the Chrysler IFS, but because most all the original components were extremely worn, decided to go the Jag route instead, which led to this........
I had tried to keep the front frame of the Chrysler intact by adapting Jaguar UCA & LCA + the spindles, rotors, etc to the Chrysler crossmember.
Got about 3/4 done and decided it "didn't look right" so abandoned that idea too.

Then went with the whole Jag front end which turned out nicely.
