Looking for some suggestions on engine combo for street/strip. This will be going into an old toyota pickup 2wd swb with 4.11's and 295/50/15's tire height = approx 26.5" tall and a th350 trans. I have no idea what this thing weighs title says 2500lbs. This is what i currently have.

400 sbc bored .030
4vr flat tops hyper Speed Pro i believe on 5.565 rods
stock crank turned/oil holes chamfered
Tourqer II intake may or may not use depends on combo
Holley 3310 750cfm v/s may or may not use as well

Also can get 93 octane all day long here

all looks good, you might worry about cooling the 400 in the small compartment and getting a radiator big enough to cool but yet small enough to fit

I have actually been running it a little bit with a cheapy mild cam Melling 22200 and stock heads casting number is 3998997 i believe, cut for 2.02's.
It cools pretty decent till it gets over a 100F outside then it gets a little close to 210 in traffic.
I'd like to get some suggestions for a cam and heads for this thing...

the cam i have in it now specs off the cam card are as follows

cam lift: I .298 E .298
valve lift with 1.5's : .447
Lobe ctr: I 110 E 118
sae dur: 291
.050 dur: 223
.050 events: BTC: 1 ABC: 42 BBC: 49 ATC: -6
doenst lope at idle and has a lot of tourqe and not so much top end

I recommend you get a copy of "Hot Rod (magazine) Engines" issue Fall 2006, a special issue on the newstands NOW until end of February. A special HotRod do-it-yourself-series magazine.

On page 20 is a story "500 hp For Cheap". A Joe Sherman built pump gas 383 with single plane intake, RHS IRON heads. This might be more radical than you want though.

If you want something more street livable, I suggest your taking some of the money and maybe up the cam....... use EngineQuest Vortec iron heads that flow 230/160 @ .500 lift, Edelbrock dual plane Air Gap intake, and step up the cam to about a 230* single pattern cam on a 108 LSA with as much lift as you can find, even 1.6 rocker arms, and get into the .550 lift area. Here's an

Popular Hot Rodding magazine did a Steve Dulcich buildup called "Budget Sledgehammer" on an iron head, dual plane intake, 350 Vortec that did 447 hp for $ 3500. It appears RIGHT NOW on the stands as an attachment to their current issue in plastic wrap.

This identical set up with the same cam on a 383 or 400 will make gut-busting 400 lbft torque at 2500 rpm with peak of 480, and with hp in the high 480+ range, run power brakes, and put a smile on your face that won't wipe off for months. That is what I would do.

You could always add 12* more cam from a 355 to a 406, and step up from the Vortec 180s to 200s or 220s for a little more money. :thumbup:

Check these sites for sizes.

Just examples of proven combos.

You need to tighten your lobe centers about 4-6* for better power.

Contrary to popular belief, lobe center is more important than duration.

both links i seen were same link..and all the heads i seen numbers for there were for 64cc heads.
Will that not put my compression to high for 93 octane gas? in a .030 400 small chevy with flat tops ...<<This i already have

Before you go plunkin' money on more go-fast stuff I think you should address the differential. It will die a quick and ugly death.
