If you had the option of either of these which would you choose and why?

It would depend on the application...........N/A I would go with a 496............Cubic inches always win in a situation where no power adders are used.


In a turbo application, a 427 will make enough power to trash a block just as easy as a turbo on a 454 or 496 could. Dan

I would opt for the 427 cause it is so rare but thats just me

I would take the 427. Can be built to be run at fairly high rpms. Without the fear of damage. I figure a 454 could too just feel better about it in a 427.
I built one in 1992 an ran it for 4 years before tearing it down again.

I chose the 454 because thats what I have,although its 0.060 over to make a 468.

Nothing really rare about it unless you are a matching #'s nut. It can be made by putting a 396(and 366 truck) crank into the 454 block and using 427 pistons. Still won't get around a 454 or bigger built with the same amount of money.

Makes no real difference to me, because they share a block(same bore size). All I want is the bare block anyway to build a 496 out of it.
