Help

I got my 454 motor from somebody else who didnt have a clue (and I guess I didnt either). I was working on it last winter. I never dropped the oil pan (because the motor was never pulled out) so I never saw all 5 main caps, however I removed the timing chain cover and saw the front main cap. It was a 2 bolt cap.

Question: I know this engine is from a 79 Chevy truck. somebody told me that the front and rear main caps may be 2-bolt while the 3 middle caps are likely 4-bolt since it was a 79 truck 454.

Is that true, false, or is one of those "it depends" questions?

I ran the casting number on that Mortec website and I think it said 2 or 4 bolt.

thanks.

Its a "it depends" Only the 3 center main caps on chevy production blocks are utilized for a 4 bolt , only way to tell for sure what you have is to drop the pan. AND I,m talking about the early blocks, not LS1's or their cousins.
